Silver Ferns narrow the gap on Australia in world rankings

Ending the year on a positive note, the Silver Ferns have jumped to No 2 on the World Netball (WN) rankings following their impressive 3-1 win over Australia in the recent Constellation Cup series.

After falling to third in October’s rankings, the Silver Ferns quickly regained second spot just weeks later when delivering a decisive campaign to claim the Constellation Cup. World champions Australia have retained their No 1 world ranking but the result has decreased their margin, with the gap between first and second reduced from 20 to 12 rating points.

There has been further movement in the top half of the table with Jamaica moving into third place following their victory over England in the Horizon Series. As a result, England has dropped from second to fourth.

South Africa remains in fifth, followed by Uganda to round out the top six.

Four new teams have entered the WN World Rankings, having reached the minimum number of matches required (8) for a world ranking with India entered at 41st, the British Virgin Islands 45th, and Chinese Taipei and the Maldives both enter at 50th, with the same points and rating.

There are now 52 teams in the WN World Rankings, eight more than this time last year.
