Defender Oceane Maihi is back for the Magic in 2026 and with it the opportunity to press her claims as a regular starter. Gaining her first fulltime contract in 2021, the 1.83m mobile defender impressed during her strong cameos as an impact player, resulting in her inclusion in the 2021/22 Silver Ferns Development squad. Gaining more court time in 2022, Maihi’s progress was cut short when sidelined for the entire 2023 season with a serious knee injury. Her inclusion adds to a tall, mobile and robust defence end for the Magic in 2026. Working her way back in to the side in 2024, Maihi had limited opportunities but those increased during 2025 where she provided value through her aerial game and non-stop doggedness. Originally from Kerikeri, with a background in swimming, in-circle defender Maihi, predominantly a goalkeeper, came through the age-group ranks in the Auckland system after attending Mt Albert Grammar School before going on to play at National Netball League level for the Comets. A physiotherapist by trade, Maihi’s athleticism and work ethic are key cogs to her continued development.
