With a wealth of experience under her belt, long-limbed defender Erena Mikaera will line up with the Magic for a seventh consecutive season in 2026. From Rotorua, the well-travelled Mikaere was a member of the history-making Magic team which won the former trans-Tasman competition in 2012. That was followed by stints with the Steel and four years in Australia (West Coast Fever and Sunshine Coast Lightning). Mikaere returned to New Zealand in 2019 to play for the Mystics. Returning to her Magic roots in 2020, Mikaere earned a popular recall to the Silver Ferns squad on the back of a stellar 2024 season, gaining court time against England for just her second test appearance, five years after her first. Mikaere’s wing span and athleticism offer a menacing presence at the defensive end while she also adds the vital ingredient of experience after being part of a winning culture on three occasions during her career – Magic and twice with the Lightning, in 2017 and 2018.
