AVIS Magic Netball is delighted to confirm the return of Rebecca Gabel as assistant coach for the 2025 ANZ Premiership season. Partnering with head coach Mary-Jane Araroa, Gabel will continue to bring her wealth of experience and passion for netball to the Waikato-Bay of Plenty region.

Having joined Magic Netball ahead of the 2024 season, Gabel quickly proved herself as an integral part of the coaching team. Her tactical insights, strong leadership, and commitment to player development helped shape a positive environment both on and off the court.

Gabel, a former Magic midcourter, expressed her excitement about continuing her journey with the team.

“Magic and this region hold a special place in my heart, and it’s a privilege to keep contributing to the success of the club and the community,” Gabel said. “Last season, we were able to elevate the teams performances, leveraging off the strong foundations built over the past few seasons.”

With an extensive coaching resume, Gabel has been a standout on the Netball New Zealand coaching pathway. Her achievements include coaching the Hamilton City Netball Centre Open Grade team to a top-two finish at the NNZ national tournament, serving as head coach of the Waikato-BOP team in the National Netball League, and acting as a specialist coach at National Talent Development Camps.

Head coach Mary-Jane Araroa praised Gabel’s ongoing impact on the team and the region.

“Rebecca has shown incredible dedication to Magic Netball and the community that surrounds it,” Araroa said. “Her knowledge, passion, and leadership were invaluable last season, and I’m thrilled to continue working alongside her as we strive for excellence in 2025.”

The 2025 ANZ Premiership season is set to be an exciting chapter for Magic, and the return of Rebecca Gabel reinforces the team’s commitment to building a strong and cohesive coaching unit.
