The Avis Magic and Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty Zone are deeply saddened by the passing of former board member and passionate netball advocate Dr Judith Moreland (Judy).
Judy dedicated countless hours to the growth and success of netball throughout the Waikato Bay of Plenty region. As a former board member of the Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty Zone (2016-2020), she played an important role in supporting the game at every level, from grassroots participation through to the elite pathway.
Her passion for netball, unwavering commitment to the community and genuine care for people left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Magic Co-Captain Erena Mikaere said Judy's support meant so much to those within the team.
"Judy was a beautiful person with the most welcoming smile and such a lovely heart.
"This is absolutely gutting news and it's such a massive loss for our whole zone.
"One of the things I'll treasure most are her messages before every game. I always looked forward to them, and they meant more to me than she probably knew."
Judy's contribution extended well beyond Magic and the Zone, with decades of service to netball in Cambridge and across the wider Waikato Bay of Plenty region as an administrator, coach, mentor and volunteer. Her dedication helped shape opportunities for generations of players, coaches and officials.
Magic Relationship Manager Gary Dawson said, "She was a hugely fantastic supporter of Magic from the very beginning and made a strong contribution to the Team as a Board Member."
The thoughts of everyone at the Avis Magic and Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty Zone are with Judy's husband Jake, her family, friends, and the many people across the netball and sporting communities whose lives she touched.
Judy's legacy will continue to be felt throughout our game, and she will be remembered with immense gratitude and affection.
