Kopua Named Captain

Casey Kopua has been named to lead the Waikato Bay of Player Magic in the inaugural season of the ANZ Premiership.

Head Coach Margaret Forsyth believes Kopua will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to a relatively young team.

“Casey is a great role model both on and off the court and her international experience is second to none”.

Forsyth says it’s important to acknowledge Kopua’s loyalty and dedication to the club. Kopua has captained the Magic previously and in 2015, formally signed a ‘one club’ deal which will keep her with the Magic through to not only the end of her playing days, but thereafter as well.

“Casey is a hardworking and professional player who leads by example and her attitude further enhances the Magic’s strong and successful culture”.

Kopua returns to playing this year after a stint as specialist coach during her pregnancy with firstborn daughter Maia and is eager for the Magic to make their mark in the new format ANZ Premiership.

Forsyth is looking forward to seeing the Magic take the court in the pre-season tournament at Te Wānanga o Raukawa in Otaki.

The pre-season tournament will be played on March 10-12 and the ANZ Premiership begins on March 26 with a Magic hosted Super Sunday featuring all six teams.
