Coffin Joins Cold Power Magic
Katherine Coffin has joined the Cold Power Magic squad for the 2016 ANZ Championship season. The defender was called into the team for the recent ANZ Championship Pre-Season Shootout held in Auckland, covering for the injured Aisha Bower. She has now been permanently added to the squad for the Trans-Tasman competition, with news that Bower's rehabilitation is likely to take several months.
Cold Power Magic coach Julie Fitzgerald says Coffin performed well in Auckland and also knows the team culture, having been part of the Magic squad in 2014.
βI was really pleased with how well Katherine fitted into the squad and her role, during the pre-season tournament and we welcome her inclusion in the team for the competition proper,β says Julie Fitzgerald.
"She was also a member of the Cold Power Magic in my first year coaching the team and so we have a good understanding of each other already, which will help as we've run out of pre-season time.
"Katherine's inclusion is because we expect Aisha's rehab to take the duration of the season and we'll be supporting her in her recovery."
After being a member of the 2014 Magic squad but debuting in the ANZ Championship for the Mystics in last year's competition, Katherine Coffin says she's looking forward to the opportunity to push for more competition experience this season.
βIt felt great being on court at the pre-season shootout and I want to help the team out in whatever way I can and to push as hard as I can for more court time during the ANZ Championship,β says Katherine Coffin.
"I know most of the girls from being in the 2014 squad and it feels great to be back in the Magic mix."
The Cold Power Magic take on the Central Pulse in Wellington on Monday night in round one of the 2016 ANZ Championship.
