After a disheartening 2020 season, the Splice Construction Magic have all the ingredients to make it to the top of the ANZ Premiership ladder in 2021.
With new and impressive signings scattered through all areas of the court, the Magic will kick off their season against the Northern Mystics on the 18 April.
Captain Sam Winders can’t wait to play some home games, promising Magic fans flair and a massive skillset from all players. “Nothing beats a home crowd…they’re loud so that’s what we like.”
All eyes will be on the net during the Magic’s first game, with Australian international Caitlin Bassett likely to be donning the goal shoot bib. One of the most surprising signings in ANZ Premiership history, Bassett will be teaming up alongside another new player, Chiara Semple and the exciting young talent of athletic Khiarna Williams.
At the other end of the court, Erena Mikaere and Temalisi Fakahokotau will provide a tough challenge for any opposition attackers, alongside Georgia Tong who shone for the New Zealand A side in last year’s Cadbury Netball Series.
The anchor of the Magic side is captain Sam Winders who should notch up 100 games for the Magic this season. Winders will be helped by Georgie Edgecombe, Tori Kolose and the experience of Grace Kara, who rejoins the Magic after suiting up for the Stars in 2018 and 2020.
Magic fans are in for a treat this season, as their new line up has the perfect mix of experience and youth. Winders said the new look team “feels fresh, it feels exciting...what we’ve developed so far is different and it’s a new vibe that we haven’t had for a while.”
